I live with many food allergies, some rather complicated when eating out and I’ve never had as good of an experience than with Disney Dining. Disney understands that people have special dietary restrictions and food allergies and does what it can to help ensure a safe meal when eating at Disney restaurants.
Things you can do in advance
When making dining reservations there is always a point in my Disney Experience where you can list your allergies or food and or dietary restrictions. This shows on your record when you arrive at the restaurant. Additionally, your server will likely confirm these restrictions. Depending on how complicated your restriction is you may have a chef come out and visit with you to ensure that they make something that you can eat and that you will enjoy. If I as your travel agent are making your dining reservations, please be sure to tell me if anyone in your traveling party will have food restrictions so I can add it to your dining record.
If you are eating at a quick service restaurant you can request to see the ingredients of the food that is offered at that location. Often a manager will show you the food lists and you can also have a conversation with them about what will be safe for you to eat.
In my personal experience, I am allergic to about 7 things and also follow a pescatarian diet. I usually see the chef and they are always very understanding and accommodating. I’ve never had a bad experience at Disney but I’m always careful to make sure they know what I’m allergic to and I always inspect my food before I eat it. As I am not in control of Disney or their dining practices I can only convey my experience to you and tips to help make sure you don’t have any unexpected issues with your dining while on vacation at Disney.
There are also many Disney food Facebook groups that are constantly sharing menus and new foods that come available for vegans, vegetarians and those with food allergies. They are a great resource as you are considering restaurants for your stay. Also please refer to the guest services page for up to date information from Disney.
All Inclusive Resorts
Each resort that I have the pleasure of working with has different restaurants and food practices at their resort. However, the one thing that I have noticed is that they are all very understanding and accommodating when it comes for food allergies and restrictions.
Things you can do in advance
When making reservations at one of the resort restaurants share that you have food restrictions. They will likely confirm them with you again at the restaurant. If you are visiting another country I highly recommend getting your food restrictions translated to the local language as an extra precaution. I usually give a little laminated list to the waiter.
One thing you may not immediately consider but can be a good idea if you intend to go to the spa is to share your allergies with the spa when making your reservation for services. Many beauty products can contain foods, fragrances or nuts that you may be allergic to and a note in advance can allow them to ensure they have safe products to use while you are enjoying the spa.
Again, if I am making your dining or spa appointments please share any allergies so I can share them with your reservations.
Hope this helps in your vacation planning!
